Now that I’m beginning to settle in to my routine back home in Florida, I’ve been working to get set up to relaunch the video broadcasts of “Open Air with Tom Remington”. As a matter of fact, today I attempted to do a trial run. This would allow me to get my settings where I want them and the necessary equipment in place and ready to go.
Ah, the best laid plans. After several minutes of fussing with this and messing with that, I thought I was set up well enough to do a live broadcast and record it. Then, instead of writing this blog, I would do a video presentation to let you know what was going on.
With a partially assembled new backdrop to the “studio”, I began streaming live audio and video and recording it. About five minutes into the broadcast, the video froze but it appeared the audio was still fine. I wasn’t sure if the recording was good and the live stream was bad or both, so I just kept on for about another 10 minutes.
Upon further review, the video ceased recording when it froze and shortly thereafter I lost contact with the server for the video streaming. Needless to say, that effort was squashed.
I tried several things and thought confident it wasn’t me and so I sent a help ticket to UStream.tv. I got a response back in a fairly timely manner saying they were having issues.(I wonder if it is because they are live-streaming the Democratic National Convention?)
I still can’t get to the site but wanted to give readers a heads-up that once I get these issues debugged, the show must go on. I hope to have at least a weekly show, if not more.
Lights! Camera! Action!

My day will be consumed with getting to Kittery and setting up to stream live audio and video of the Maine Moose Lottery drawing to be held at the Kittery Trading Post.
If you are interested in viewing the events, click this link to the Skinny Moose Media broadcasting site where you can view and/or listen to a live broadcast beginning around 3 p.m. today. You’ll also find instructions on how to view pictures as we take them around the venue. All pictures will be taken by our chief photographer, Milt Inman.
Just a quick reminder. Once you get to the video/audio viewing page, if you want to leave there to look at some photos, make sure to open another browser window or tab if you are using tabbed browsing. In the new window, go to the Black Bear Blog. You can then switch back and forth.
Activities get underway in full force by 4 p.m. but many people will be there by 3 p.m., myself included. I have some interviews planned with some interesting people. Once the drawing of names begins at 6 p.m., I will be streaming live video and audio of that only so you can listen for your name to be drawn.
I hope you’ll join us for the event. Comments will be available on this page, the page where we post pictures and the broadcasting page. Depending on how busy I am, I’ll try to answer any comments or questions.

If you missed the live presentation of Open Air With Tom Remington yesterday, here is your opportunity to listen to that recorded program.
The show was a bit different than others but one I think you’ll enjoy nonetheless. I share with listeners some of the new “gadgets” I have at my disposal to make me even more obnoxious than I already am.
I’ve also included an update on Skinny Moose Media’s plan to do a remote live audio stream from the Kittery Trading Post in Maine for the annual Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Moose Lottery. It should be a good time. We will go live with our broadcast sometime around 4 p.m. and live drawing will commence at 6 p.m.
Are we getting carried away with blaming everything, good or bad, on global warming?
I thought it important to spend a bit of time explaining about the different kind of visitors I have at my blogs and some of the problems that arise when a visitor lands on one of my articles for the first time, reads it and leaves a comment based solely on the contents of that article. This is not necessarily the readers fault as I explain that it is impossible to link every story to every other article that fully explains my position on certain issues. This is just one of the many challenges of being a blogger. I think the explanation will help listeners and readers to better understand the dynamics of reading blogs all across the Internet.
The last part of the show addresses political issues. The main point I wanted to clarify was why, if I am going to support John McCain in the upcoming presidential election, I am spending time criticizing some of the things he says and does. As most of you know, I am a conservative. John McCain says he is but to me it is more of a pick and choose kind of conservatism. I am not one to simply agree with everything John McCain says just to be a good republican. So listen in and find out why.
Listen to the broadcast now!

Yesterday’s show was a live broadcast, part of an attempt to work out more of the “bugs” that seem to be affecting the show. That part of the effort was unsuccessful but I did end up with a recorded broadcast. All the information has been posted up at the Skinny Moose Radio home page along with an audio player so you can listen to the show. You can also download the audio if you chose and play it later.
Yesterday’s show includes a commentary from me about hunting ethics and the “bastardizing of the hunting ethic”. This includes why some people just have to legislate and control everything which ultimately steals our rights and freedoms as Americans.
Along with sharing with listeners about the growth and recent successes of the Black Bear Blog, I take a little time out to tell a funny story about Nancy Pelosi referencing Bible Scripture. You got to hear this one.
There’s also a bit of a treat at the very end of the show that I think most listeners will enjoy. So, follow this link for more information about the show and a chance to stream the audio for the latest podcast of Open Air With Tom Remington.

Nothing…..exactly! We work with a company that provides the means with which we can stream or broadcast audio via the Internet. From my end, I’m experiencing technical problems that I’m quite sure are not the problems of the provider by my own equipment, including my Internet Service Provider.
With that said, I have been trying to do live broadcasts because it removes one step that I have to take to get a recorded broadcasts uploaded and ready for streaming or podcasting. My problems are two fold. During a live broadcast, listeners keep getting dropped. Once dropped, a listener has to close out their browser and log on again. Of course a total pain. I believe this problem is on my end with either a too slow computer processor or Internet connection or just a bad combination.
The second problem, somewhat related, involves uploading a recorded show to the website that hosts the broadcasts. Again, I believe this is from my end as uploads, which are of relatively large file sizes, are getting hung up and will not complete the upload.
So, why am I telling you all this? Because I wanted you to know I haven’t given up on the show. Also, I am still working on the technical problems from my end, short of stepping out and purchasing all new equipment, which demand can’t justify that end right now.
Today at 3 p.m. I am going to attempt another live broadcast. I have made some changes that I hope will tell me more specifically what the problems are so I can work toward correcting them. Even though the broadcast will be live, I will also record the show and then upload it to my own server at Skinny Moose, which I haven’t had any problems with. From there you’ll be able to stream or download the audio.
If you would like to join in the fun, log on to the Skinny Moose Radio at 3 p.m. today. Hopefully all will go well.

First my apologies to anyone attempting to log on to the live broadcast of Open Air With Tom Remington yesterday at 3 p.m. Due to technical problems, of which I am still trying to figure out and sort through, that’s why I’m way behind in my work this morning, you may have been booted off the air while trying to listen in. As near as I can figure out, if the connection or transfer speed is too slow or has interference, the connection gets lost which would force a user to close out a browser and open a new one and try again. This seemed to go on all through the show.
Fortunately, I recorded the show but once again, for some reason, again for which I haven’t figured out yet, I am having difficulties (putting it nicely) getting the file uploaded to the server.
As soon as I can get this corrected, the show will be available for streaming and I will put up a notice.
Thanks for your understanding and once more my apologies.

Today’s Open Air with Tom Remington broadcast on Skinny Moose Radio will air live……that is if all goes well. Tune in at 3:00 p.m. today and find out. I plan to discuss some property rights issues, people attacking people over wolves, gun rights, some debate over plans to list the polar bear as a threatened or endangered species and of course, climate change, including the new medical terminology called “global mourning”.
Who knows what else I might sneak in there unsuspecting and there will be no commercial interruptions!!

Today’s show, airing at 3 p.m., is brand new and one I think you’ll really enjoy. After having spent two grueling weeks buried in work, much of the show is light and full of stuff to make you laugh.
I found a recording of a guy in Texas who supposedly is placing a phone call to a buddy on his cellphone, when he witnesses an accident happening right in front of him between a man who runs a red light and four old ladies driving a Chevy Impala. It’s hilarious and you can’t miss it.
Also, I share a complete list of “When insults had class”. Back in the day, people were more apt to cleverly use the English language to find ways of insulting people. Unlike today when it is mostly four-letter words and hand gestures, yesterday’s insults were a bit more difficult to follow. So, listen in and maybe you can learn how to crude somebody out in a “nice” way.
And you didn’t think you could completely get away without some kind of update on climate change did you? I share a brief announcement that NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has announced that their underwater robots report the ocean waters have neither warmed or cooled since 2003.
I play a little “The Obamaman Can” for those of you worried that our economy and the world in general is going to hell, we have the Obamaman.
The last segment of the show is a brief synopsis of Tuesday’s oral arguments in the Supreme Court case of District of Columbia vs. Heller. Don’t miss any of it.
