Fish Die From Train Car Spill
CSX railroad accidentally spilled a substantial amount of soybean grain into a tributary that feeds Yellowleaf Creek in Shelby County, Alabama. As the grain swelled and rotted from not getting cleaned up fast enough, it depleated the oxygen level of the water resulting in a substantial fish kill. A recent heavy rain exacerbated the problem.
Alabama officials are weighing whether or not to fine CSX railroad a per-fish-killed amount.
