Massive Carp Kills
Officials are poisoning waterways in order to kill massive numbers of Asian carp, an invasive species that threatens the multi-billion dollar Great Lakes fishing industry. The poisoning also collaterally kills thousands of other fish species. Critics want to know if this is the right thing to be doing?
Tom Remington

I am undecided myself about this Tom. It is obviously hard to get the poison to be selective on what species it impacts. On the other hand – if nothing is done species will die from the impact of this invasive species. It’s a matter of when – not should fish die.

I agree! From a strictly logical perspective, it would seems to me in my limited knowledge of all things fishing, that saving the multi-billion dollar Great Lakes fishing industry outweighs the loss of other fish as well as the carp.
In all honesty, I think there would still be the criticism if authorities were able to selectively kill only the Asian carp.
However, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of outrage when states systematically go about reclaiming bodies of water, i.e. poisoning whole lakes, destroying virtually everything in it in order to restock it with a desired fish species.
Let’s try doing that with land mammals! Ha Ha
