Followup to “Tying the Maple Syrup”

Recently received an email from Alvin Theriault, clarifying the tye.

Here’s the step by step from Alvin himself: As written in the email he sent.

For a simple fly so many people get it wrong.

1.Only hook size is 6x long size 10 because that is the best size to immitate most preditor nymphs that fish eat
    2. Thread not so important
    3. Tail is yellow calf hair or tail, because yellow is a good visibility color.
    4. Body is beige rayon chenille because beige has worked best in all trials for most fish. chenille must be tied thick and tight for best results. size 2 chenille works best. Start at the head, wrap to the tail and back.
Tight chenille helps prevent the fish from feeling the steel. Rayon also holds the saliva from the fish and makes for a better tasting fly.

If you are not catching fish with the maple syrup, it is because you are not retrieving fast enough or you are not fishing on bottom.

    Hope this helps,
    Alvin Theriault

    Thanks Alvin……
……………..ok go tye some flies guys and gals.
