To anglers in the know Glazier Lake has been the Musky mecca for at least the last ten years here in the Northeast. Now there are ever growing populations in the St John watershed. As well as very respectable fish being pulled from Baker Lake to the south. The Aroostook River may even as we speak be getting it’s own invasion of Muskies. Not to mention St. John feeders like the Meduxnekeag. Granted this invasion can present many negatives. But the Musky has brought millions to the county!!! Yes..that much. Musky Tournaments and full lodges all up and down their waters is testament enough that anglers will come to catch them.
My humble opinion is that we in THE COUNTY, must adjust to the new eco-tourists. The anglers will come to catch the Musky and the Bass we have done our best to anihilate. We have lost at every turn. Nothing short of poisoning has been done to eradicate these “immigrants”. But still they come and they eat there way through the waters of Aroostook. It’s time to get real and get paid!!
We need to farm these fish like we farm our fields. Turn these weeds into a cash crop. Build lodges and employ guides to angle for them. Turn this plaque of warmwater species into the boom of tomorrow. Elitest attitudes and Trout Unlimited limited thoughts will fall short in this economy. Next to the flow of cash I see looming on the horizon for those who get ready now.
As a Flyman I am already tying musky and bass flies to meet the demand. Having seen the Striper Fly trade go bellyup in the last few years. We must sail our vessels on the tide, or run ashore on the rocks.
The guides up on the St. Francis are not to be forgotten either. More than a few are tying spectacular musky patterns very popular in Canada. Some I hope to share with you here in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
I welcome your comments…………yes you can talk to me.

Flies to come….lots of tying time ahead.
