The water is ever lower in the Meduxnekeag River and Fish River systems. So low in fact that most of the trout holes are too low and the trout have moved up the brooks to seek cooler water. It is very hard to locate a fishable stretch on the Meduxnekeag right now. Well at least one that has some trout in it.

This little bass is typical of the hordes of smallish bass that are all over the river in these low water conditions. The sunnies are out and offer some fun fishing as well. But if you are looking for trout……..better try the lakes.
Speaking of lakes……

The bass in the shallows of Nickerson Lake were quite cooperative. As were an assortment of sunnies, white perch, and a few pickerel as well.
My wife caught a better fish…………

…………….but none were monsters. All were caught from shore from the few vantage points out there.
We still saw some beautiful scenes………

……….to catch some bass under the foot bridge ………………………….and get a moose pic to share with you!!!
All in all…a great afternoon out playing with rod and camera.
P.S. If you fish the Meduxnekeag……..it’s artificial lures only from The North Street/Route 1 bridge….downstream to Canada and that includes all tributaries!!!!! Caught some kids worming below the foot bridge……..could have been a costly mistake…read the lawbook!!!

I would like to thank all of you who have contacted me about my abscence. I am doing fine… and looking to be back in the fly game as soon as I can. Getting back into the fly game is what drives me forward. But sometimes life just throws up hurdles for us to overcome.
Pictured above is the driftwood display of flies created for my good friend Ken. A gift for him to give his son-in-law. The twelve flies represent the best patterns for fishing Northern Maine lakes during the spring trolling season.
See if you can identify them……
I’ll post the list as soon as we get a few comments.
Over the next few weeks I will be giving you an inside look into the world of online fly swaps. I have several pending that should prove to be quite interesting.
Here’s the list:
On FTF I have these swaps:
1. The Natural Bendback Swap: Crooked Creek Bendback* End Date 1/15/2010
2. Mystery Box: Ongoing Swap……box circulates from tyer to tyer…12 in and 12 out. This swap has been going for more than a year.
3. Mystery Material Swap: Sister swap to the Mystery Box. (Open only to members of the Mystery Box Swap)
4. Gartside Memorial Swap: I’ll tye “Gartside Frog”*
5 Redfish swap: Gartside Gurgler
(More to be added as I join them)
On NAFF I have these swaps:
1. The Salmon Fly Swap: Miramachi-Cosseboom End date: 3/1/2010
2. The Bronzeback Swap: Alien Invader*
3. Pike/Warmwater Swap: Bloody Bunny Leech*
4. Eek a Mouse! Swap: Morrish Moose Rat*
5. Redfish/Specks Saltwater Swap: The Puff (aka ….”puff the magic dragon” fly)
6. Gartside Memorial Swap: Gartside Frog* (This swap is still Pending…not formally announced.)
In each case I will show you the fly I am tying, how to tye it and the flies I receive in follow-up. As of right now, I still have to “announce” a fly or two as yet not listed. (* updated info…….)
How I choose what to tye is based in part on what I like to tye and what the other tyers are tying. (No repeats Please.) The key to swapping is to tye what you like….tye early and ship the flies as soon as you are done. Don’t be late and don’t be the last tyer to ship. We have all been late, but plan on getting it in early to avoid a bad rep on the forums. Tying is fun…. And swapping is amazing!
Some of the swaps listed above are still open. Meaning YOU CAN JOIN THEM!!! Become a member of the forum and then post under the swap ”I’m In!” and you are swapping! Pretty simple stuff….. give it a try.
Now keep in mind I am not tying in all the swaps that are available. There are tons more out there than I can ever hope to tye in. So check out the two forums listed and see for your own self. Come on. Enter the world of Swappers! Share your patterns, talent, and knowledge. Leave the cliquish fly clubs behind…. Join THE WORLD OF TYERS. I’ll see you on the internet !!!!
Note * denotes updated information…….watch for updates and leave a comment.
